This article is intended to help you determine if full text search has been enabled for your InstantForum database.
You can check if SQL Server Full Text search has been configured for your InstantForum database like so...
1. Connect to your InstantForum database via SQL Server Management Studio
2. Expand your InstantForum tables and right click the InstantForum_Messages table. If full text search has been configured for your database you should notice the Full-Text Index option is available within the context menu that displays when you right click the InstantForum_Messages table as shown below...
Full-Text Index is Grayed Out / Disabled
If you right click the InstantForum_Messages table and the "Full-Text Index" option is grayed out and does not reveal a menu allowing you to create full text indexes this would indicate Full Text search has not been configured for your database.
Whilst SQL Server Full Text search is typically always installed with SQL Server it's not always enabled automatically for databases.
Enabling Full Text Search For Your InstantForum Database
If you've not already enabled full text search for your instance of SQL Server you can do so by executing the query below. The full text search service is installed by default with all instances of SQL Server 2006 and above.
To enable full text search within SQL Server 2005 or above simply execute the following query against your InstantForum database within a new query windows...
Once you execute this commend you should notice the "Full-Text Index" option shown in the screen grab above is available. You should not need to restart your instance of SQL Server however you may need to refresh your tables within the SQL Server object explorer for the changes to take effect.
Taking Advantage of SQL Server Full Text Search
